Performance
There are two engines for the Edge: the base and an upgrade that is only available as part of the top trim level. The base engine is a V4 with a turbocharger. It is rated for 250 horsepower, more than enough to give the acceleration a real kick. You'll feel it when you start up when a traffic light turns green or when you need to merge onto the highway. The upgrade boosts the power to 335 horsepower, a significant change but not so much that the base engine feels lacking. Either one will give the Edge a muscular and engaging feel anywhere from Granger, IN to Goshen, IN.
Interior
The interior design of the Ford Edge allows for lots of room for the passengers. The front and rear rows have all the headroom and legroom you might need, and there are over 39 cubic feet of cargo space in the back. You can open up more by folding down the back row. The materials are comfortable and smooth, with the front row of seats getting more comfort features. The back seats have LATCH connectors for installing a car seat.
Tech and Safety
The infotainment center is a definite highlight of the Edge. The touchscreen is large for the class at 12 inches wide, and it runs Ford's most recent SYNC software for a fast, responsive menu. The icons are easy to read. It has smartphone connectivity, Wi-Fi, satellite radio, and USB ports. Upgrades include wireless charging, navigation, and more. The safety features are just as plentiful, although not all of them are available on the base trim as standard features. It also performed extremely well in crash testing.
Ford Edge Trim Levels
The five trims for the Edge each have their appeal, but the base SE trim is satisfactory for many Mishawaka, IN and Bristol, IN buyers because so much is included. The second trim, the SEL, adds parking sensors and seating upgrades and opens up a wide selection of options and packages. That includes the remaining automated safety features. The ST-Line trim includes more tech features and a restyled performance-centric look. The Titanium trim is more luxurious, with upholstery and comfort upgrades, a different design from the ST-Line, and a separate pair of packages. The ST has most of the lower trim options and a unique performance package. It's the only one with the bigger engine.
